FAU Police Department Believes in Transparency

The FAU Police Department is here to keep our community safe and believes in the benefits and openness of transparency in policing. We want everyone to understand who we are, what our policies are and why they exist, and how FAU police officers train and prepare for emergency situations. FAUPD officers train annually on defensive tactics, firearms, taser and de-escalation techniques. Officers participate in two active shooter scenarios, a department-wide and a multi-agency large scale scenario. Monthly officers complete training on policies, procedures and state law.

ACCREDITATION TEAM INVITES PUBLIC COMMENTS ABOUT FLORIDA ATLANTIC POLICE DEPARTMENT

April 29, 2024

For Immediate Release

A team of assessors from the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA) will be on-site July 30, 2024, to examine all aspects of the Florida Atlantic Police Department's policies and procedures, management, operation, and support services. We will have to comply with approximately 260 standards in order to receive accredited status. Many of the standards are critical to life, health, and safety issues.

As part of the on-site assessment, agency members and the general public are invited to offer comments to the assessment team. A copy of the standards manual is available on the CFA website at https://flaccreditation.org, under the standards tab.

For more information regarding CFA or for persons wishing to offer written comments about the Florida Atlantic Police Department's ability to meet the standards of accreditation, please write to: CFA, P.O. Box 1489, Tallahassee, Florida, 32302, or email at flaccreditation@fdle.state.fl.us.

The Accreditation Manager for the Florida Atlantic Police Department is Kimberly (Kim) Strong. The CFA assessment team is comprised of law enforcement practitioners from similar agencies.

Once the Commission's assessors complete their review of the agency, they report to the full Commission, which then determines if the agency is to receive accredited status. Verification by the team that the Florida Atlantic Police Department meets the Commission's standards is part of a voluntary process to gain, or maintain, accreditation - a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence.
