What is it? |
What is Cardaccess? |
Cardaccess is the electronic version of key control. It allows building supervisors to determine who can enter the building at what times.
|
Why cardaccess instead of keys? |
While keys may be convenient, they pose a problem when lost. The user may not report it, leaving a security breach, or the department has to weigh having all the locks changed.
By using our Owl Cards, if a card is lost, it just has to be deactivated, rendering it useless.
|
Who runs cardaccess? |
The University Police administer the server and perform the data entry, however the responsibility of determining who is allowed on lists is determined by the building supervisor.
|
Who is my building supervisor? |
A list of building supervisors is available at http://www.fau.edu/publicsafety/cardaccess.php

Owl Card |
What is an ISO number |
The ISO number is the magnetically encoded number on the stripe on the back of the card. The number is not printed anywhere on the card, and can only be retrieved from a mag-stripe reader.
|
What about this number by the barcode? |
The number by the barcode is generated for the library. It is not a search field or useful to cardaccess for matching a person's record.

The Cardaccess Forum |
When will my submission get entered? |
While 99% of our entries are handled on the same day, the Cardaccess Committee, has allowed 2 business days from receipt for entry in to the system. This includes door openings/closings, personnel entries/removals and reports.
You should plan accordingly when making arrangements.

Why can't I just call you with the information? |
The main reason is there are 4 of us currently on the team. By calling only one, the other three don't know to handle your request. This is the same for email or phonemail. By documenting everything in the forum, we have the ability to search for the requests if a problem comes up. This also lets the other cardaccess managers for the same building see what's being requested.

I don't want to give my SSN. Why won't you use a Z number. |
We do! With the changeover to Banner Student - we now use the Z number to match students and staff. SSNs are no longer needed if you have the Z number.
